This pendant has a 2 1/2mm hole drilled through the top from side to side for your chain or cord. It measures 15x30mm (5/8" x 1 1/4").

Boulder opal is unique to Queensland Australia. It occurs in deposits of weathered sedimentary Cretaceous rocks in the west of the state. It is found in siliceous ironstone concretions or boulders ranging in size.

The veins of opal are tricky to follow and many cutters use a saw to cut and split the boulder rough and colors can be spectacular with all colors of the rainbow.

A split is when miner has cut piece boulder rough and sees good vein of color, he will put nick along this vein color with his saw blade and the rock will split open revealing the opal colors. Sometimes it looks like both pieces have been polished so splits are popular in making earrings as very hard to get 2 pieces of opal matching in color.
